Associates

Betty Johnston

I have recently retired after 28 years as a Pharmacy Technician. I was looking forward to the next step in my life. I found that I missed the people who were a daily part of my job. I realized that helping people of all ages was very satisfying to me. That is why I decided to be an Associate for AYSFS. Being able to help a person, whether it is driving them to an appointment, shopping, visit a friend, clean or just sit and talk will not only help them in everyday living but also give me a opportunity to give back. I believe AYSFS is a good fit for me and looking forward to this new phase in my life. I have been married for 43 years to my high school sweetheart (Jim). We have two boys, and 3 lovely grand-girls. Love spending time with them all. I enjoy walking, shopping, attending events, lunches/breakfasts and going to movies with my friends.

Having worked in sales, design and customer service for most of my working life, I’ve enjoyed caring for and helping to raise my grand daughters from babies to school age for the last 7 years.

That has brought me to my next rewarding life stage and helping to care for seniors and assist them to stay in their own homes. Being an Associate with At Your Service For Seniors allows me to do just that.

I love to cook and listen to music and hear all the wonderful stories seniors have to tell about their lives and experiences. I learn something new every day. My special interests are nutrition, healthy eating and preparation of food, reading, movies, theatre, exercise (I’m qualified to teach Ageless Grace), yoga and spending quality time with family and friends.

I’ve worked with At Your Service for Seniors for more than 3 years. My hobbies are crocheting, knitting, cooking, baking and of course preserving jams and jellies. I do a old fashioned green tomato mincemeat – which is very popular!

I also do some catering for friends, family and others. I also have four grandchildren that keep me busy and laughing!

My name is Jessica Schweyer and I have been with Community Living London for 20 years working with adults who have physical and intellectual disabilities.

This role has touched my life in many ways and taught me a great deal about appreciating things through someone else’s eyes. I enjoy working with seniors for many reasons. I have always found that they have interesting stories about their lives. I find their perspective on life interesting and often they have a fabulous sense of humour. I enjoy reading, photography, hiking, swimming and cooking in my spare time.

I enjoy meeting new people and listening to their life stories which are always interesting (especially seniors). I’m a retired teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing with experience in speech, language, sign language and of course hearing aids.

My special interests are TAI CHI, reading, movies, plays, music and going out for lunches. Also, learning about better nutrition, exercise (mental and physical) and cognition is always interesting.
